We have had a great few weeks travelling to schools surrounding the Derrybrien windfarm in Co. Galway and bringing our wind workshops to schools in the area with the support of ESB. We have visited 6 schools in all, and our interactive, hands-on and educational workshop was a great success.
For each workshop at each school we brought our large fan, our assembly tables and our windmill rotor parts and after a brief explanation, the pupils were let loose to design and build their own wind turbine rotors. The challenge was to lift as man weights as they could in teams of 3 or 4 during the workshop. Most groups lifted more than 1kg, where some lifted more than 2 kg and a very few lifted more than 2.5kg in weight. Everyone was given the same materials and windspeed! It is a great workshop to participate in.
Some of the schools have written about our visit on their webpages, click on the school to see their write ups:
We thank very much our sponsors for these visits ESB Group and we hope that the schools will visit the windfarm on the 15th of June for Global Wind Day. For more information on these visits you can email Helen@learnrenewables.com and we’ll get back to you.
